DONA Birth Doula Workshop Dates for 2010:

A doula provides continuous emotional, informational, physical support and advocacy to a laboring woman.

doula symbol The Women’s Health and Birth Center Doula Workshop is a unique and exciting program. After attending this DONA-Approved workshop, we offer continued support to our new doulas. Through our program, you may attend births at the birth center and local hospitals under the guidance of our midwives. These experiences count toward your certification with DONA. We offer free monthly educational meetings with your workshop instructor, Connie Sultana. After the workshop, Connie guides you in completing your DONA Certification Application.

During the fun-filled 3-day workshop we explore:

  • The significance of birth in the life of a woman
  • Communication Skills
  • Working with hospital staff and care providers
  • How to set up and market your doula practice
  • How to interview with a potential client
  • How to conduct a prenatal visit
  • What happens in a postpartum visit
  • Emotional support in each stage of labor

  • Positions and advanced comfort measures for labor and birth

Beyond the Basics: Effectively Assisting Breastfeeding Mothers
nursing mother This program is for healthcare providers or educators who want to effectively help new mothers successfully breastfeed their babies.

The Lactation Specialist Program offers comprehensive information on breastfeeding, with an emphasis on hands-on skills to enable the provider to give effective and individualized assistance to breastfeeding mothers.
