ginko leaf A Birth Story

image: Milo Sometimes carefully made plans change unexpectedly. New Mom Sara Bixler planned to give have her baby in the Birth Center, but had to go to the hospital instead. She delivered Milo Rafael there (that's his picture at left).

She says:

I am extremely happy to have chosen the midwives at the Women's Health and Birth Center for my pre-natal care and the birth of my baby boy. I had planned a natural childbirth at the center, but in the end, circumstances brought me to Sutter for a medical induction and I gave birth in the hospital.

It was wonderful to have the continuity of care with the midwives (Rosanne in particular) during my 72 hours in the hospital (it was a long induction process!) I felt entirely safe and felt my baby was safe in the hands of such an experienced crew.

I came very close to an unnecessary c-section, but Roseanne's skill and attention kept that from happening — I was able to give birth to my beautiful son Milo, and hold him in my arms just as soon as I pushed him out.

It was an incredible day, truly an amazing end to a wonderful nine and a half months, and was made even more special by the nurturing care from Roseanne and Chris, and Jennifer and Parie. I am so grateful to them, and the entire staff of the birth center — Milo and I were very lucky to have such a great team behind us.

Channel 11 gave WHBC's own Rosanne Gephart a camera to record her view of life as a midwife for a series profiling interesting people. Watch arrow indicates a link Moving Pictures: Through the Lens of a Midwife. You may recognize some beautiful little faces!
